Kenneth Kwaku Avotri Kafui was a distinguished Ghanaian composer and music educator, recognised for his innovative fusion of indigenous African musical traditions with classical forms. His contributions to the field include globally acclaimed compositions such as "Pentanata" and "Mida Akpe." His lasting legacy in instrumental and choral music continues to inspire successive generations, and this concert serves to commemorate his extraordinary contributions to Ghanaian music and culture.
Ken Kafui is remembered as a renowned Ghanaian composer, music theorist, and educator, whose choral and orchestral works are widely appreciated. His influence continues to shape Ghanaian art music through his impact on students, young composers, and colleagues.
The gift, talent and the service that pleases God---the creative works of Kenn Kafui will always live in our hearts as a good example of a talent offered back in praise songs to the Maker the Giver, and the source of all good gifts.
Kenneth Kwaku Avotri Kafui was a brilliant Ghanaian composer and a music lecturer known for his unique style in combining African musical elements with Western style of composition. In fact he has developed his own style of Arts music composition that is recognised globally. A lot of art music composers are inspired by how he treated his melodic lines and also his harmony that sound like "African baroque and classical music " expecially in his most popular song "Mida Akpe na Mawu " in which he employed syncopation between the soprano part singing the same note with high pitches in "staccato"', and the tenor and bass parts moving in third up and down to create a wonderful counter point. This style is seen in most of his pieces and that is what made him so unique amongst his peers, and it has become a compositional device for young composers today.
